Confident and energetic playing -
Confident and energetic playing from Newbury Youth Theatre, in this piece devised by themselves. It's set in the office where lost mail ends up - the stage is beautifully papered in the cream and sepia shades of old envelopes, letters, maps, timetables. Postcards and letters come alive - their contents acted out by the ensemble with great comic effect and lively,well-timed choreography. The assured solo playing brings characters alive - among them the old codger, the manic explorer, the philosophising lady, and the gawky clerk(whose trousers are rather smart for the job!).One scene brings home the tragic horror of war, as letters pass between home and battlefield. In fact, all the pathos of human life is here - love, death, and penguins - (and watch out for the Hugh Grant lookalike!)
