What is the value of Human life?

Again Youth Arts Leicestershire, under the directorship of Carla Cicinskas and Robert Staunton bring another thought provoking play to Edinburgh this year. The play "The Baby and the Fly Pie"is a contemporary "Oliver Twist" with Mother Shelley(alias Fagin) controlling the rubbish tip kids' destinies. On the tip all survive on society's discarded rubbish, harbouring dreams of escape. When that escape comes in the form of a kidnapped baby and a £17 million ransom three of the rubbish tip kids:-Sham,Davy and Jane(alias Oliver)  seize the opportunity to seek their fortunes.Little can they predict how their quest for money will lead to a spiral of hypocrisy, exploitation and...death.
What is the value of human life? What are the moral values each baby inherits at birth?Irrelevant if born to "rags or riches"the moral dilemma of our existence is true for each one of us.The manipulative force of money destroys human relationships and lives through greed and hypocrisy.
This production proves that nothing is too great a challenge for this inspirational youth theatre group.Performed by talented actors who interchange roles deftly and use the theatre space with ingenuity, this play portrays the maturity and originality of this company.
Congratulations to these talented young performers whom we look forward to seeing next year.
