Theatre of Widdershins
The Elves and the Shoemaker
Widdershins, a Bedfordshire based company, is passionate about presenting family audiences with good strong stories, through a mix of energetic storytelling, intriguing pop-up sets, artistically designed puppets and original music (Martin Thornton). Penny directs, Andy makes and performs, and Zak (12) and Erin (8) come up with the really creative and funny bits! This year, Andy is joined on stage by Martin Thornton.
Shooooooooooooooes....! Ah, new shoes..... Delightful on the feet. Swarthy pirate shoes…… delicate dancing slippers……. No one makes shoes like an elf. Beautifully crafted set and puppets, sublime music, a kaleidoscope of miniature shoes and a comic mouse make this show a magical must-see. Last year’s “Fringe Gem” ***** The List.

Power should come from within the person and the community, and be made responsible to those it affects. The ultimate criteria in the organisation of work should be human dignity and service to others instead of solely economic performance.

Have you seen a large shoe with drawers, pockets and shelves?

From the youngest to the oldest the audience was enthralled by the
ingenuity and skills of Andy, the story-teller/puppeteer, and Martin, creator of music and odd noises.

For the second time the Theatre of Widdershins has brought us a delightful hour's entertainment, directed by Penny with puppets and props made by Andy and the whole enriched by imaginative suggestions from Zak and Erin.

Andy drew his audience into the show from the start, interacting particularly with the children and then tantalised us by saying we'd have to wait to meet the elves. It didn't seem like waiting as his story unfolded and we watched the puppet characters of various shapes, colours and sizes, listened to words, music and intriguing sounds and, of course, the elves did appear.

Have you ever seen a very large shoe with drawers and pockets and shelves and lines? No? Then you'd better see this show and find out what's in and on them and what those elves get up to!
